LIONS PARK
The redesign of Lions Park envisions a vibrant recreational landscape that caters to children across different age groups while fostering learning, creativity, community interaction, and a deeper connection with nature. Thoughtfully divided into age-specific play zones, the park encourages sensory exploration, imaginative play, physical challenges, and independent social interaction through a wide range of interactive play equipment and environments.
Spaces for toddlers focus on sensory and cognitive development through crawling tunnels, swings, picnic meadows, and acoustic play elements, while zones for older children introduce water play, climbing structures, trampolines, skating areas, and sports courts that encourage creativity, movement, and exploration. Educational walks, forest trails, elevated pathways, and interactive exhibits are seamlessly integrated throughout the park, transforming recreation into an immersive learning experience rooted in ecology and nature.
At the heart of the park, a central plaza functions as a lively community gathering space with entry facilities, kiosks, and public amenities. Existing infrastructure is repurposed thoughtfully, while new facilities ensure accessibility, comfort, and inclusivity for children, parents, and differently-abled visitors alike.
Preserving the site’s rich vegetation remains central to the design, with mature trees, including iconic banyan trees, shaping unique microhabitats and spatial experiences across the park. Through its careful integration of play, landscape, education, and community, the redesigned Lions Park becomes more than a recreational destination - it evolves into a cultural and ecological landmark for Calicut.
